As we prepare to celebrate Juneteenth, let us reflect on the enduring strength, resilience, and contributions of African Americans throughout history. This day is not only a time to remember the struggles of the past but also a moment to recognize the progress we have made and the work that remains to be done.
The NAACP has been at the forefront of the fight for civil rights and social justice for over a century. We remain committed to dismantling systemic racism, advocating for equal opportunities, and ensuring that the voices of marginalized communities are heard and respected. Today, we reaffirm our dedication to these principles and our unwavering belief in the promise of a better, more just future for all.
In Georgia, we are blessed with a rich and diverse heritage that has played a crucial role in shaping the cultural and social fabric of our nation. The celebration of Juneteenth is an opportunity for us to come together, not only to commemorate the end of slavery but to celebrate our unity, our shared history, and our collective aspirations. Numerous NAACP Units with the support of the State Conference and National NAACP are preparing to celebrate “Freedom Day” and I strongly encourage you to celebrate with them in all capacities. We also strongly suggest that you patronize and celebrate “Liberation Day” with all other organizations and groups that will be celebrating in different forms and capacities.
I encourage all Georgians to engage in the various events, educational programs, and community activities taking place across our state in honor of Juneteenth. Let us use this occasion to educate ourselves, to foster understanding and solidarity, and to inspire the next generation to continue the fight for justice and equality.
On behalf of the NAACP, I extend my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked tirelessly to bring this celebration to life. Your dedication and passion are a testament to the enduring spirit of our community.
In unity and solidarity,
Gerald Griggs
President, NAACP
