The Georgia NAACP has joined forces with Congressman Hank Johnson to push back against proposed cuts to Social Security, a move that would disproportionately impact seniors, working families, and marginalized communities. The fight to protect these essential benefits comes at a time when millions of Americans rely on Social Security for financial stability in their retirement years.

On March 1, 2025, Congressman Johnson held a press conference to address the potential cuts and the devastating impact they could have on Georgia residents. Standing alongside him were representatives from the Georgia NAACP, labor organizations, and community advocates, all united in their demand for the protection of these hard-earned benefits.

President Gerald Griggs and Congressman Hank Johnson push back on Social Security Cuts from Washington DC.

Georgia NAACP President Gerald Griggs made it clear that the organization will not back down in this fight.

"Social Security is not a handout—it is a promise made to hardworking Americans who have spent their lives contributing to this system," said President Griggs. "Any attempt to cut these benefits is an attack on our seniors, our disabled community, and our future generations. The Georgia NAACP stands firmly with Congressman Johnson and all those working to protect Social Security. We will not allow our most vulnerable citizens to be left behind."

The Georgia NAACP and its partners are urging community members to call their elected officials and demand they oppose any cuts to Social Security. As the debate continues in Washington, local advocacy remains critical in ensuring that these benefits remain intact for all who depend on them.
