Atlanta, GA — The Georgia State Conference of the NAACP is joining the family of civil rights icons Medgar and Myrlie Evers in issuing an urgent plea for the safe return of Nicole Evers-Everette, the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Evers and daughter of Reena Evers-Everette. Nicole, affectionately known as "Niki," has been missing from her Duluth, GA, apartment since Sunday, September 22, 2024. Her last communication was with her mother at 5:55 PM EDT that evening.
Nicole’s mother, Reena Evers-Everette, expressed her deep concern, saying:
“I am worried and terrified for my daughter, Niki. She has not reported to work this week, which is highly unusual. We talk regularly, and it is also unusual for me to not be able to reach her. She does not have her cell phone, purse, or other personal effects. However, her car was missing from her apartment complex and last seen on Keys Ferry Road & McCart Road in McDonough, GA, on Monday night. I am in constant prayer that she is safe and comes back to us soon. Timing is critical because Niki has a medical condition that requires medication, which she does not have.”*
The Evers-Everette family is working closely with law enforcement officials and urging the public to remain vigilant. Any sightings of Niki or information regarding her whereabouts should be reported immediately to the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5700.
The Georgia NAACP stands in solidarity with the Evers family during this heart-wrenching time. Gerald Griggs, President of the Georgia State Conference of the NAACP, expressed his support:
"Nicole is a beloved member of our community, and the entire Georgia NAACP is committed to bringing her home safely. We are asking everyone in Georgia and beyond to stay vigilant and support the search. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Evers family, and we will not rest until she is found."
Nicole, a kind and warm-hearted individual known for her radiant smile, has captured the hearts of her loved ones and the wider community. As the granddaughter of Medgar Evers, her family’s legacy is intertwined with the history of the Civil Rights Movement. Now, that same legacy calls on the public to come together and help ensure Nicole’s safe return.
The Georgia NAACP encourages the community to join in prayer and support for the Evers-Everette family during this difficult time.
